More U.S. States Considering Alimony Modification

Since Massachusetts modified its alimony laws in September, states nationwide are making efforts to amend their alimony laws as well. New Jersey and Florida are considering a reform most similar to the recent Massachusetts alimony modification. Citizens of New Jersey and Florida are fighting for the abolishment of lifelong spousal support, a correlation between length of marriage and length of alimony payments, and an overall less barbaric alimony institution.

However controversy has begun in Florida over the potential alimony modification in the sunshine state. ABC Action News reports,

"The bill would forbid a judge from considering adultery when deciding how much alimony to award. It would also put a cap on alimony, restricting payments to 20 percent of the payer's monthly net income."

The fear is that the payment cap would hinder women who did not work in order to care for their husband and home during the marriage.

It is safe to say that changes will have to occur before Florida alimony modification gets the unanimous support that Massachusetts reform garnered. For your chance to gain from Massachusetts refined alimony modification please contact Massachusetts alimony reform lawyer, John Rauseo for a free consultation at Rauseo Law.
