The Effect of the Alimony Reform Bill on Your Relationships After Divorce
With the recent passing of the Alimony Reform Bill of 2011 many aspects of an alimony settlement are changing. One of the major effects it will have within your life after divorce is a strong correlation between
alimony and outside relationships post
divorce. These reforms effect both the payer and the recipient of the alimony. The following are three newly enforced revisions within the act pertaining to relationships post divorce:
1. Alimony is terminated upon remarriage of the recipient.
2. If the payer remarries his/her's new spouse's assets and income are not a factor in redeterming an alimony settlement.
3. If the recipient of the alimony moves in with another partner, their alimony may be "suspended, reduced or terminated" after 3 months of cohabitation.
