Prenup Popularity

Celebrity divorce has become a common topic within popular culture and, as a result, a common topic in our daily lives. With the rising interest in the extravagance of celebrity weddings and the even more sought out details of their eventual divorce, the term "prenup" has also become commonplace.

According to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers or AAML, the term "prenup" has not only appeared in the average American's vocabulary but has become much more prevalent within the average relationship as well. The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is made up of 1,600 matrimonial lawyers and 73% of those lawyers have seen an increase in prenuptial agreements within the last 5 years. Just a decade ago, a prenuptial agreement was nearly unheard of.

Many suspect this increase in prenups is due to the prevalence of celebrity divorce in the media however the current tight economic times is another notable factor. People are becoming less naive to the possibility of divorce and are taking the steps the protect their assets.
